最近読んだ英語勉強法の本に感化されました。
精進すれば大迫力！: シンプルだけど王道 「村上式シンプル英語勉強法」（村上憲郎）

つまるところ「英語力＝単語力」なのではないか。
大学受験時代は、確かにそのように信じていました。
「村上式」の通り単語を眺めていただけでテストのとき単語がわかるようになり、ぐんぐん英語の成績が上がったのを覚えています。

しかし、社会人になって今さら単語帳なんてという思いもあり、単語の集中トレーニングはしてきませんでした。

文章と一緒に単語を覚えようという取り組みはしてきましたが、やはりそれでは文章に重点がおかれ単語力増強には弱い気がしています。

そこで、めんどくさがらずここはちゃんと単語の集中トレーニングをしてみようと思います。
まずは、「村上式」で紹介されていた「英単語ピーナツ」の「金」「銀」「銅」を毎日の通勤時間中に眺めようと思います。

これらの本は、1冊に2語の単語のピーナッツが777個載っています。
「金」「銀」「銅」のすべてを眺めると777個/冊x3冊=2331個
よって、約5000語の単語を眺めることになります。

iPOD touchでのフレンズも続けますが、メインは単語にしてみます。

村上式シンプル英語勉強法―使える英語を、本気で身につける

米グーグル副社長であり、日本法人社長である村上憲郎さんの英語勉強法です。
「シンプル」と付いている通り非常にシンプルですが、具体的数値目標を示してあり、説得力のある内容です。

一言で言うと、「筋トレ式英語勉強法」です。
どこを鍛えているか意識して語力を鍛えるというのに、目から鱗でした。
あと、語力は単語力、それをまず鍛えようと思いました。

そこで、2枚目のCDからは2話ずつiPODに移すことにし、週に2話勉強することを目指します。
iPODに移す手間も半減します。

今回は、語源が日本語の単語が出てきて面白かったです。
hibachi（火鉢）とshiatsu（指圧）です。
shiatsuはそのままの指圧ですが、hibachiは携帯用ガスコンロのようなものを指しています。

7話は、何回見てもふき出しそうになります。
チャンドラーが自分が吐き捨てたと思ったガムを口に入れ、他人の捨てたガムだとわかった後、そのガムで窒息しそうになるシーンです。

このドラマに出ている6人とも演技がとても上手だと思います。
ロスがパウロの口真似をするシーンのロスの顔など顔の細かい表情が抜群です。

7話は、最初の字幕なしで結構聞き取れた気がします。
といっても、20%ぐらいでしょうが。

ちなみに、チャンドラーと一緒にATMに閉じ込められるJill Goodacreは本人で90年代のモデルです。

第6話に入りました。
最初のジョーイの劇でふと気付いたのですが、劇の終了時には明らかに客が減っています。
こういう細かいところまで見逃せないドラマです。

ジョーイがアルパチーノの映画のケツ役で出ると決まったときのチャンドラーの「crack your way into showbuisiness」とロスの「you gonna invite us all to the big opening?」で、観客がなぜどっと笑うのか分からなかったのですが、http://blogs.dion.ne.jp/friends_english/archives/1444401.htmlでRachさんの解説を読んで納得しました。
チャンドラーの「crack」「芸能界に割って入り込む」と「お尻の割れ目」をかけて、さらにその次のロスの「opening」が「映画の初演」と「お尻の穴」をかけていたのですね。
奥が深いです。

今日は、DVDの生のデータからMP4に変換する方法です。

InterVideoという会社のiVideoToGo Platinum iPod/PSP ダウンロード版がよいと思います。
ダウンロード版で4,362円を使っています。

①　モードを「カスタマイズ」にして、データを変換したい章にチェック


②　フォーマットを「MP4 - Apple iPOD」にチェック

③　プロパティのオーディオとサブタイトルの言語を選ぶ

④　右下のコピー開始をクリック

フレンズは1話22分ですが、30～60分でデータ変換できます。

これでiPODへのDVDの移し方は説明終了です。

「フレンズ」を使った英語学習ですが、1ヶ月以上継続出来ています。
毎日興味津津で視聴しています。
こういうワクワク感が今までの英語学習にはなかった気がします。

また、本当の日常会話に非常に近い話し言葉だと思うので、
「こういうの本当にネイティブは言うのかな」という心配がありません。

単語・熟語・表現もエピソード記憶を用いるので覚えがよい気がします。

ドラマを使った英語学習は、今のところ大成功です。

今回は題名は「東ドイツの洗剤」ですが、この話の頃はすでに東ドイツは消滅していたはず。
"Extra tough"を強調するために敢えて東ドイツにしたのでしょう。

フリーソフトのDVDFab HD Decrypterを使ったDVDリッピングの具体的方法です。

DVD1枚（22分×4話）全てをリッピングすると、12時間以上かかってしまいます。
よって、リッピングする項目をフォーカスするのがポイントです。

①　「Main Movie」をセレクト

②　Play timeが1時間半ぐらいの項目をチェック
これに4話すべてが入っています。

②　「Audio」の言語をセレクト
英語学習のため日本語では聞かないというのであれば、日本語のチェックは外しましょう。


③　「Subpicture」（字幕）
iPODで日本語字幕でも、英語字幕でも見たいというのであれば、両方にチェックを入れておきましょう。
Japaneseが2つありますが、2つ目はよくわかりません。
いつもチェックを外していて特に問題は生じていません。

これでスタートして、30分以内でリッピング完了です。

1週間に1話ずつ視聴・学習していく予定です。

DVDの英語字幕では、会話全てが字幕表示されている訳ではないので不便に感じていました。

スクリプトを紙に印刷することにより、英語の学習がさらに捗りそうです。

そのブログの主が最近出した本がこの「シットコムで笑え！楽しくきわめる英語学習法」です。

時々、観客の笑い声が入るドラマ
シットコムで笑いが入るのは、公開録画されている

ドラマを使う意義

①　「無セリフ時間」が少ない
BGMだけの時間や効果音だけの時間がほとんどない
公開録画されているので、セリフもはっきり話されている

②　観客の笑いが入るので、笑いのポイントがわかる
意外と笑いの感覚は、アメリカ人と同じである
画面だけを見て笑えたら、ネイティブ並みの理解力が付いたと言える
ジョークに笑えることが、英語の理解度の指標

③　「キャラ立ち」してくる
それぞれのキャラクターに合ったジョークやリアクション
やりとりの妙、会話の間を学べる

④　脚本家が考え抜いたセリフ
文法的に間違っていても、ネイティブには通じている生きた英語である
ドラマで使っていれば、その表現はネイティブにはナチュラルな英語である

⑤　面白くてワクワクする
何を言っているのか猛烈に知りたいという気持ち
苦行ではなく、楽しみとしての学習

で書いた通り、かなり苦戦しましたが、何とか市販のDVDをiPOD touchに入れることができました。

大きく2つの手順が必要です。

1. DVDリッピング
2. データ変換: MP4に

その変換データをiPODに移せば、iPODでDVDが見れます。

1番目と2番目について悪戦苦闘してマスターしたやり方を順に説明します。

1番目：DVDリッピング

フリーソフトのDVDFab HD Decrypterが操作しやすかったです。
http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htmからダウンロードできます。

他にもいくつかフリーソフトがあり、http://rip.o-oku.jp/rips1.htmlに載っています。
その中のDVD decrypterを試しましたが、いまいちわかりにくかったので上記がオススメです。

2番目：データ変換

InterVideoという会社のiVideoToGo Platinum iPod/PSP ダウンロード版がよいと思います。
ダウンロード版で4,362円、パッケージ版で6279円です。

フリーソフトもあるのでしょうが、使いやすい日本語のソフトであり、時間と精神的・肉体的な労力を節約できます。

やっと、TOEFLテスト完成ボキャブラリー2000語のリスニング＋リーディングを一通りやり遂げました。
1ヶ月を要しました。

今回の勉強の仕方は、

• ボキャブラリーの音声部分は削除し、トピック本文音声のみ利用

• 1トピックごとに、リスニング→リーディング→リスニング→リーディング→リスニング→リーディング→リスニングと、４回リスニング、３回リーディング

このシリーズを上記勉強法をして要した時間は、

1. TOEICテスト基本ボキャブラリー：　2.5週間
2. TOEICテスト完成ボキャブラリー：　2.5週間
3. TOEFLテスト基本ボキャブラリー：　3.5週間
4. TOEFLテスト完成ボキャブラリー：　4週間

の計12.5週間（ちょうど3ヶ月間）です。

次は、アメリカのホームドラマに取りかかります。

アメリカのホームドラマを見るためにiPOD touch 8Gを購入しました。
カカクコムで3万2000円でした。

なぜ、アメリカのホームドラマかというと映像を見ながらの英語学習が効率的という本があったからです。
その本では、「リスニング＆シーイング」と名付けられていました。

しかし、DVDからiPODに入れるのに苦戦しています。
規格を転換するためのソフトがいるようなのです。
空き時間に研究することにします。

よって、しばらく英語の勉強は、姉妹編の「TOEFLテスト完成ボキャブラリー2000語」をすることにします。

5月12日のエントリー「Mindmapping Doctor日誌: TOEICテスト基本ボキャブラリー （野呂健, 野村展子 ）」で紹介したTOEICテスト基本ボキャブラリーの続編です。

これも各本文のみ3回、リスニングとリーディングを交互に行いました。

記録によると去年の今頃同じ教材で勉強をしていたようです。
単語は、結構忘れていました。

単語の部分を編集でカットすると、すごくよい教材になります。

TOEICテスト基本ボキャブラリー

もともとは、TOEIC,TOEFL&英会話コーチングスクール PRESENCEでこの教材を教えてもらいました（2008年4月15日のエントリー参照）。

TOEIC・TOEFLに限らず、一般的な英語の勉強にこのシリーズはおすすめです。

ただし、そのままCD通りに勉強するのでは、駄目です。

この教材の良い点は、各トピックの本文の内容とCDの発音・スピードです。

よって、題名には「ボキャブラリー」とありますが、ボキャブラリーの部分は削除し、トピック本文のみ利用しましょう。
そして、しつこいぐらいリスニングし、リーディングしましょう。

この本を最初から最後まで勉強するのは3回目ですが、今回は1トピックごとに、リスニング→リーディング→リスニング→リーディング→リスニング→リーディング→リスニングと、４回リスニング、３回リーディングをしました。

ヘッドホン・イヤホンの衣替え

通勤時間は、できるだけ英語を勉強しています。
春になったので、ヘッドホン・イヤホンの「衣替え」をしました。

冬は、寒いので、ヘッドホンを使っています。

ノイズキャンセリング機能の付いたヘッドホン・イヤホンの存在を知ったのは、勝間和代さんの無理なく続けられる 年収10倍アップ勉強法に載っていたためです。

SonyのノイズキャンセリングヘッドホンMDR-NC60を2年間使っています。

利点は、

• 冬場は、耳あてになって温かい
• ノイズキャンセリング機能で、電車の雑音が最小限　→　音量が小さくて済み、鼓膜の保護になる
  

欠点は、

• かばんが重くなる
• 場所を取る
• 出し入れがめんどう
• ノイズキャンセリング機能を使いながら、歩くと足音がうるさい

しかし、春になると耳が暑いので、ごく普通のイヤホンに衣替えしました。

地下を走行中の電車内の雑音さえ我慢すれば、ごく普通のイヤホンの方が軽量で小回りが利きます。

スラスラ話すための瞬間英作文シャッフルトレーニング

名前は似ていますが、前作どんどん話すための瞬間英作文トレーニングの次の段階の英語学習本です。

前作（エントリー参照）では、各文法ごとに10例文ずつ「日本語→英語」と流れていきました。
本作では、いろいろな文法がシャッフルして出てきます。
計500例文。

特に、僕を含めた日本人がとっさに出てこないであろう否定疑問文も多く載っています。

約90%の完成度に仕上げるのに、3ヶ月以上かかりました。
慣れると、否定疑問文とそのYes/Noの答えも、すらっと出てきます。

なかなかよいアウトプットのトレーニングだと思います。

英語の勉強を続けるために、玄関のドアに英語グッズを掛けておく

英語の勉強は、通勤時間にするようにしています。

しかし、眠かったり、疲れていたり、気分が乗らなかったりで、かばんから英語グッズを取り出すのが億劫になってしまい、ぼーっと職場まで行ってしまうことがあります。

そこで、玄関のドアに強力マグネット・フックを付けておき、そこにヘッドホンなどを掛けておくことにしました。


職場に着いても、かばんにしまわずに、ロッカーの中のフックにそのまま掛けています。

すると、家や職場を出た瞬間からヘッドホンを付けることになり、億劫さがなくなり、英語の勉強が続けられています。
電車で座れたときは、睡魔に負けて眠ってしまうこともよくありますが、それぐらいは仕方ないと思っています。

石田淳さんの「続ける」技術でも、不足しているターゲット行動を増やすには、その行動のハードルを低くすることが書かれいます。

こんな小さな工夫で「続ける」ことができます。

ちょうど2年前に、TOEIC,TOEFL&英会話コーチングスクール PRESENCEのスピーキングコースに通いました。

通った理由は、弟から杉村太郎さんの本を教えてもらい、熱い男に興味を持ったからです。

ただし、この本の表紙の人物はかなり若いときの杉村太郎さんだと思います。
実物は、かなり違う印象です。

コースは、スピーキング基礎コースで、週1回8週間で10万円でした。
担任は、栗原先生。
生徒は8人ぐらいで、学生、OL、政治家秘書の人までキャリアも年齢も性別も様々でした。

「8週間で英語をしゃべれるようになる」というのは不可能ですが、そこで英語を勉強する習慣を身に付けることができました。

特に、授業で使った教材（市販のもの）が選りすぐりでした。

ゼロからスタート英文法　CD付

これらの教材を毎日頑張らないと間に合わないぐらいの宿題が出る。
つまり、仕事の行き帰りに勉強しないといけない。
さらに、「K/H」のシャドーイングのために電車の中、街中でぶつぶつ言うことも恥ずかしくなくなりました（それぐらい思い切らないと間に合わなかった）。

8週間終わった後も、上記の続編をコツコツ続けました。

PRESENCEでよい教材を教えていただいたおかげで、TOEICの点もちょうど1年間で、770点→855点に85点上がりました。

ただ、授業の8週間でしゃべれるようになるというのは不可能ですので、お間違えなく。
